You know when you go see a really great film in the theatre, and when the credits roll, no one moves? The theatre is silent as everyone contemplates how that art matters. Sometimes, when you read a really fantastic book, the same thing happens.
After finishing any story that leaves me quiet like that, I wonder whose work reshaped the world-view of the creator. What book influenced each author to put pen to paper? Which movie convinced a script writer to go to film school instead of practical business school? What art reshaped each storyteller’s journey?
In that moment of silence after finishing a truly fantastic piece of art, I always wonder what made that storyteller fall in love with writing.
That’s how “These Words Matter” came to be. I want to explore which books inspire authors to become writers, and which stories we all have to thank for the birth of new, brilliant tales. Thankfully, several published writers feel the same way, and have graciously shared their first memorable reading and writing experiences.
Created in January 2015, I am thrilled to say that the segment has contributors right through 2018.
Here’s to more reading, writing, and reshaping of our world views.
