You know when you go see a really great film in the theatre, and when the credits roll, no one moves? The theatre is just completely silent for a moment as everyone contemplates how that art has affected their lives. Sometimes, when you read a really fantastic book, the same thing happens: you just sit in silence and think about how that one book has reshaped the way you view the world.
After finishing any book that leaves me quiet like that, I wonder whose work has reshaped the world-view of the author. What book influenced each author to put pen to paper themselves? Which novel reshaped a particular author’s journey?
In that moment of silence after finishing a novel, I always wonder what book made that author fall in love with reading.
This is why I pursued creating “These Words Matter.” I want to explore which books inspire authors to become writers, and which books we all have to thank for the birth of new, brilliant stories. Thankfully, several published authors feel the same way, and have graciously shared their first memorable reading experiences.
Created in January 2015, I am thrilled to say that the segment has a contributor for every month right through to 2018.
Here’s to more reading, writing, and reshaping of our world views.
